Thank you so much Abby for this amazing concert , it's been wonderful to have you here tonight and great thanks to Haiku Quan who sponsored this performance .
But let's not keep the suspense any longer i know our participants are eager to know who are our lucky winners .
Three judges were kind enough to take the time to read and decide between the entries we've received .
Our judges are Haiku that we all know as a lover of Arts and Art events , Noowun Wind , a well-known cultural animator and curator for Art events as well and StoneCoal Ashdene a voracious reader and a lawyer
It turned out to be quite difficult for our judges to choose between our numerous participants here i can quote them actually "Everyone's entry showed that each contestant was very engaged by Hermes' pictures, and inspired in so many different ways. And their variety of perspectives had me running back to the exhibit to take a fresh look at the images. The writers were right: there are so many stories and fantasies that jump out of the pictures in that collection. "
It was an uneasy choice as we hadn't give any delineated criteria on which to judge the entries and each of the writings of course had strengths.
But after a few readings of each , a choice had to be made .
Our winner is In the Darkness of The Night by Darian El Nairad
It was found to be a compelling poem which imbues the picture it describes with both atmosphere and meaning. It's well conceived with its ability to match the menace and magic of the artwork. Darian wrote it in Italian which is his mother tongue but also in English and here is how it ends
" a man in a strange suit
glittering with a thousand sequins it appears to me
he looks like a clown from an old circus
with a strange pointed hat
borrowed from some witch
it makes him evil and makes him enigmatic
I'm there, speechless, terrified
He looks at me mockingly with a cynical smile
he tells me: I am a character of
CHARACTERS"
Congratulations Darian !
Our second winner is an other poem, Love and Art by Dante Helios Our judges found it very exquisite , well built and well written and it transported and enchanted them very much .
Let me read you just an excerpt
"Just like two clowns
Who once believed
That Love and Art
Were all
We stand together side by side
As if in morbid trance
At chaos all around us now
A deadly kind of dance"
Congratulations Dante !
Our third winner is Kal the Mengi by Kamille Kamala Our judges liked this engaging tale told with clarity and simplicity, as if a verbal history told to villagers around a campfire. And it's also a creative interpretation of the picture she'd chosen. Let me show you how nicely it was told
"The enemy were unprepared for the trained assassins dressed in white feathers with red and
black war paint on our faces. Only the elite warrior women are allowed to wear the white
feathers as this is hard fought privilege and honor. And the white paint on my face can only be
worn by those who have supernatural powers."
Congratulations Kamille !
And there is a special mention for Jasper Abe's "The Face of Many" that is a fine tale well told .
Congratulations to the winners and to all who submitted entries, thank you for joining this contest that has been very stimulating for everyo
